What We Can Help With

Open Book Speech Therapy provides a mobile, evidence-based speech pathology service for school-aged children. Our key focus areas include literacy, language, speech sounds, and stuttering.

Literacy

Literacy are the skills involved in reading and spelling. Some children may have difficulty recognising letter–sound relationships, sounding out words, reading fluently, or spelling accurately.

Speech

Speech is the way we articulate sounds. A child may have difficulty producing a sound (articulation) or swapping one sound for another (phonological difficulties) which may result in difficulties being understood.  For example, they may say ‘tat’ instead of ‘cat’.

Language

Receptive language is understanding language such as answering questions, following directions or understanding words and sentences. Expressive language refers to using words to express needs, wants and ideas. It includes creating sentences and telling stories.

Stuttering

Stuttering makes it hard to speak smoothly. A child may repeat words, parts of words or phrases. They may stretch a sound e.g. ‘ssssseven’ or get stuck trying to get a word out.
